 Introduction
In January 2010, and again in 2011, Amarok demonstrated its power, durability and off-road performance as official support vehicle on the world famous and infinitely challenging Dakar Rally, conquering some of the most testing terrain in the world. From the dry heights of the Atacama Desert to tough mountain passes and demanding sandy stretches, the entire team of Amarok support vehicles successfully completed the trip, helping the Volkswagen Race team win a 1-2-3 podium finish. |
 Efficient engines
If proof of engine efficiency was needed, Dakar rules state all vehicles entered for the event, be them race or support, must have a minimum range of 800kms. The range of the Amarok? 1000kms on a single tank. Featuring an 80-litre fuel tank, that works out to an impressive 7.9l/100kms. With a choice of two engine options available, the efficient 340Nm turbo diesel and the more powerful 400Nm bi-turbo, Amarok combines unmatched pulling power and class-leading efficiency from its TDI engine. |
 Driving capabilities
On road and off, Amarok has a range of driving systems and intelligent 4MOTION settings to take you anywhere you need to go. All models feature an ‘Off Road Mode’ with specific settings for the ABS and ESP to maximize performance on loose surfaces. Both 2WD and 4MOTION models offer the Off Road mode and great ground clearance. The Selectable 4MOTION features low-range gearing for powerful off-road performance, while the Permanent 4Motion switches power automatically between driving wheels with most traction, making it perfectly happy cruising the freeway or hunting out the nearest off-road bush trail. Permanent and Selectable 4Motion models feature a mechanical rear differential lock for forward progress in even the toughest conditions. |
